A quick review of the Costa Mesa show. My first show seeing it in S. Cal. Nice stadium. Nice weather. Great crowed. I didn't see all of the div. 2 corps. I'll review the ones I did see.

Blue Devils B 66.15

Nice show again. Much improved since concord last week.

SCV Cadets 68.85

I thought they should have scored closer to Mandarins and Pacific Crest. They have a really nice sound. They march like their older brother, Santa Clara Vanguard. In general, great show.

Mandarins 72.20

Again, much improved since last week. They probably have the hardest musical book in div. 2. Very demanding show. I thought the drumline should have won that caption. Once this show is clean, they will soar. Nice work.

Pacific Crest 74.75

In a year or two, they should be a div. 1 corps. They already have that look. Great guard. Nice drill. They really sell this show. A lot like last years. I think they could take the div. 2 in D.C. if they went, but again, only doing a small tour. I do hope they someday travel to the big show.

Troopers

Nice show. A lot of patriotic theme thru out this show. Should they compete in div. 1 though. Maybe not but again they are the Troopers.

Blue Knights 72.80

Wow! Again, wow. I didn't expect much from them. Never cared for their style. But this year, totally different. Great show. Crowed loved them. Drumline really was on fire. Maybe the hardest drill of the night. I really had them in 2nd. If they clean this show, they could upset some top notch corps this august. I'm not kidding. They are that good. Very exciting show from the Blue Knights.

Glassmen 75.15

Beautiful show. Nice drill, very clean. They don't have the demanding show like Blue Knights or Santa Clara Vanguard, Blue Devils but they do sell this show perfectly. They have a really classy feel to them. It's like looking at a fine painting. Not really oh my god feel, but pleasant to look at. Top 5 again is possible.

Santa Clara Vanguard 74.20

Better than last weeks performance. Still no closer. Played it though. Can't wait to see it. Maybe next week. Again typical Santa Clara Vanguard drill. Very demanding. When this show is complete and cleaned up, it could do very well. Musically, very nice. Top 3 is still in their reach but I really don't know about taking the whole thing. It just doesn't have the sense of greatness like last years show. Well see.

Blue Devils 80.80

Phenomenal! Awesome! WOW! How do they do it. This show from start to finish is so great. This show is total GE. Horns, drums, guard... they have it all and it's blended into so well. No question about the point spread. It really could have been larger. I really don't know who will challenge them this year. I hear The Cadets are great. Cavies have potential. But in my opinion, they would have to be perfect in order to beat the 2000 Blue Devils. I've been around this activity along time, and this show is just perfect. They have no weakness. As good as Blue Devils was last year, this show is much more demanding musically and drill wise. It's a pity I won't see them this weekend. You guys in Europe are in for a real treat.
