Thanks to Joel Knull on RAMD for this review!
Hi all! I was too tired last nite to post a review, but now I feel the
time is right. Please remember that this is just my opinion, and I have
no intention of flaming any corps. In fact I enjoyed them all big or small.
Ok here goes.....
(Real Score) (My Score)
9th Phantom Regiment Cadets....38.6 29.8
I thought that this was a very entertaining show for the group they put
out. Prob's stick out alot during the show and it needs mucho cleaning.
I noticed that during the drum solo a tenor player had lost his stick
(or maybe didnt have 2 because I didnt see one lying around on the field?)
and could'nt play thru then and most of the show. However I really liked
this show and I hope it brings them much success wherever they go.
8th Capital Sound..............44.8 50.3
Oops, I think I enjoyed the drum solo too much I gave them to much in
the drum caption. This is the 2nd time I've seen this corp and I really
like this show. One Q tho, Was this the exact same drum solo that Madison
did in '92 or '93?
7th Kilties...................47.9 55.0
This Corps was COOL!! I use to watch those '70's drum corp shows on the
tapes that I had. And when I saw the Kilties they reminded me of those
shows!!!! The Drum Line was cool and the horn line had some nice tunes.
Most people enjoyed "Just a Gigolo". I guess they are scoring low becuase
of the visual show. But Overall this corps has one exciting show!!! If
they are competing in DCA Championships this year.. Watch Out Minnesota
Brs. You got some competition!!!
6th Northern Aurora...........53.2 52.9
Visual is really dirty, they really need to work on it in that department.
Otherwise good concept and some nice music. The Drum Major looks like Yanni
so I guess that this years program suits them well. I was surprised that
they scored this well but if there scoring this well wait until their show
gets cleaned up.
5th Nite Express..............55.2 -
Im sorry..I was stuck in the concession stand so I missed half of this
show. From what I saw It looks like its gonna be pretty exciting.
4th Pioneer...................63.2 68.4
WOW!!! The last time I saw Pioneer was in '92 when I marched. This was
the first time in awhile I had seen them. I can see why alot of people
weren't complaining when they were beating Troopers. This show has some
great moments! And if they can build on it it could be a Semi-finals
appearence for these guys!! BTW I thought they shoulda scored higher
than a 63 they looked pretty clean.
3rd Colts....................71.3 75.2
This is the best colts show I've seen in awhile. The horn line is lookin
good and they got some good visual moments this year also. If they really
clean this show and change some moments on it, it will be a free ride to
finals for them.
2nd Phantom Regiment.........78.4 81.2
Phantom Regiment came on last and I think the crowd was drowned out after
they gave numerous Standing O's To Madison. I dont understand why this
show is getting picked on by the judges, 3.2pts behind Madison???? Now I'm
not a Phantom fan or anything, but I thought they deserved much closer than
that deficit. The show looks very good, they gotta change some moments of
the show because at times it loses focus. They sorta have a Cadets of Bergen
County drill which makes it look very nice. The drum line is getting better
and better every year for this corps, and I think that drumming has been the
downfall the past years for Phantom. The horn line is really smooth and its
got some nice moments. I really like this show and I think its got some
potential.
1st Madison Scouts...........81.6 82.9
HOLY SH**!!!! This Horn Line is F**** AWESOME!!! This corps got numerous
standing O's and they were well deserved. The drum line is really clean for
this early in the season. Drill seemed a little dirty at times but its only
July!!! This corps better not peak too early because they got themselves an
excellent bid this year for top 3!!! or better yet...Champion!!
