July 5, Mankato, MN

Thanks to Paul R Wochnick on r.a.m.d for this review!

Here, again, is my two cents worth......

North Force: This corps is improving by a little bit at a time. The
thing that seems to have cleaned up a lot is the guard work. My good
friend Julie Lebar has been working with their guard the past couple of
years so I'll just say WAY TO GO JULIE :)

Nite Express: During the show I had the pleasure of sitting next to an
older gentlman who had saw the show the previous night in St. Peter. His
reaction to Nite Express best summs up their performance: "They surprised
the hell out of me!". Yes, they are probably the most plesant surprise
out there this year. They have a very mature show this year and they are
getting a great deal of crowd reaction. Like I said in my review of
Hastings....watch out for this corps.

Govenaires: Again, they are very entertaining. They have some nice
guard work and they seem to work very hard at it. As an interesting side
note the Scouts and the Govenaires drumline both played the corps on for
retreat. Big drumlines.....ya gotta love 'em.

Northern Aurora: This corps has an interesting show. They also have
new uniforms this year, but I most say that I likes the old ones better.
Their drumline is definately up there in div. 3 so they should do well.

Americanos: What stood out most to me for this corps is their guard
uniforms. They have a mixture of different styles of evening ware (I
think thats how you would describe it, but what the hell do I know about
fasion.) They are marching a very large drumline and they are very
dirty. I think you could build a house on top of the dirt. I did like the
frontline, though.

Minnesota Brass: These guys definately came to play. The way
Mankato is set up the stands are very close to the field. This enables a
corps that has a lot of sound to REALLY have a lot of sound. Kudos to
both the drumline and the horns for their performance. Only one kudo
goes to the guard and they must all share it. Unfortunately the guard is
very dirty and takes away from the performance. The drumline seems to
have had a good couple of days of practice, and it shows.

Madison Scouts: The Scouts, again, had a great show. I won't say too
much except that Bolero has grown on me a little. It seems like a tune
that you have to listen to at least a couple of times before you can
enjoy it. Of course Malaguena absolutely RULES!!!
