Editorial notes:

First of all there was rain. Lots of it. Then it was cold and misty for the rest of the night. I did not see Dutchboy, Ridge Raiders or Conqueror II. Spirit of Atlanta went absent as they were held up at the US/Canada border.

St John's took first place in Div III but they were the only competitor in that division. Don't remember much about the show.

After a 45 minute break (because Spirit of Atlanta was not present) the Div I competition started.

5th Les Etoiles 64.7
The marching was very tight and clean, as were the formations. Unfortunately the music was not quite accessible. Every song kind of sounded the same, dark and brooding. A bit more dynamics would be useful. The marching was excellent though!

4th Academie Musicale 66.2
Very cool show with creative, original music - Metamorphosis. This corps has come a long way and is on its way up I think. The marching had a few formation problems, but the sound was fantastic for a smaller corps.

3rd Kiwanis Kavaliers 66.7
The home crowd favorite did their home town proud. I think the show deserved a few more points as it was quite an emotional roller coaster. Looking like Phantom Regiment, the Kavaliers did "Evita" proud. The cool Argentina and Peron-writing flags accented the show well. The music hit peaks and valleys. And if the field wasn't as wet, the marching could have also been better.

2nd Crossmen 75.0
Personally my favorite show tonight. The usual jazz shines with a great rendition of the Birdland classic. Excellent dynamics and interpretation in the auxiliary percussion. Just overall really cool. Crossmen could definitely come in the top 5 this year with a straight up cool show. Course I haven't seen Blue Devils, Vanguard, Scouts and several other corps yet :). The marching had a few holes tonight that were pretty obvious, though.

1st Cadets of Bergen County 84.0
Um, aren't you guys afraid of hitting each other in such tight formations. The marching is unbelievable as usual. The guard throws rifles back and forth. The drum line goes wild with rhythm. The brass line has runs up and down the scale and overall chaos ensues. Very interesting original compositions make this an exotic yet fairly accessible and exciting show. Some of the formations literally change in 4 bars and that's nice to see. No props to speak of yet, but as usual CBC has a winner on their hands.

I just wish I did not predict all 5 spots so accurately before the scores were announced. Would make for a bit more excitement, you know?
