Okey-dokey--we are going to give our opinions on what we saw--if you don't like them, consider yourself wrong. don't take this personally--just get off your butt and go to a show and then post. It's that easy.

Colt Cadets (27.3)
Nice start for a first show. Guard uniforms are adorable. Next.

Coachmen (33.7)
Uhhhh--DO SOMETHING! PLEASE! a very flat show. go get some popcorn or something. Just kidding, but this show needs some major work in the excitement area. Next...

Marion Cadets (47.7)
These guys are cool...they rock! With a very small ensemble, they don't fail to entertain from start to finish. Look for this corp to surprise some larger groups in their division.

Americanos (48.8)
Latin music=latin rhythm=syncopation=LOOK OUT! Phasing was a big problem tonight, but this show could really be fun. good luck.

Colts (70.1)
The Colts were a real pleasure to watch, and were the most entertaining corps of the evening. Guard issue--if you don't get it, let me clear it up for you... ready (nice and slow). GUARD UNIFORMS=Leather=70s outfits=70s music=Freaking cool. Hornline grabs you by the cajones and doesn't let go. Some shrapnel but the staff is just letting them have fun right now. Don't worry, contrary to rumors the Colts DO know what they are doing and are out for blood, sweat,...and your soul! P.S. KICK ASS WARM UP TUNE!!!! Iron Butterfly is BACK.

Phantom (77.9)
One word: Elegant. Another word: power. One more word: KRISTY????? (Not that we mind, but we think they lost the rest of her uniform. Maybe it will be back after their break...let's hope not.)

Their horn line came to play, and there were some gorgeous moments...this is far from the finished show, but it has already given me goosebumps. There are times when you can even hear overtones--neat-o. Drumline and guard are in control too. Yup, you guessed it, they're contenders.

Thanks for reading our review. Comments are encouraged but that doesn't mean we will give you a dime for being soooooo intelligent and worldly in the ways of DCI. Just go to a show and enjoy it and QUITYERBITCHIN'!

Just got back from Rochester - thought I'd leave the scores and a few comments.

8th Place - 23.5 - Decorah Kilties: This is the first time I have ever seen this corps, so it was a new experience for me. Their show was based on Dante's Inferno from Robert W. Smith. The first think I noticed was that this corps looked very young - it wouldn't surprise me if a few of the guard were about 7 years old. For as young as they were I was impressed. Although they did have some phasing problems, especially with the Inferno, they showed great promise for a young corps. Great sop solo in the middle of the performance!

7th Place - 46.7 - Capital Sound: My how they have grown in the past few years! And boy did I see some similarities between them and the Scouts in a lot of their movements! I liked the jazz theme of the show, but overall it seemed a bit uneven. Tonight it seemed that they really had only one volume level - loud. Still an entertaining show, but I think they are going to have to learn to control it a bit more if they hope to make a move in Div. 2. I was impressed with the percussion line, and I live the color guard unis! Very classy!

6th Place - 47.7 - The Blue Stars: The second corps in a row to do Dante's Divine comedy music. They also had some phasing problems with the Inferno, but the show improved from there. I was impressed with the sound and visual effect of Their 3rd number, Paradiso. They got a very rich sound from the brass line, and the color guard had some beautiful silks. Overall I think this is a better show than last years, and it will be fun to see them evolve!

5th Place - 48.0 - Kilties Sr: Man did I love this show! They brought the crow to their feet during Pachuco. Besides the scorching brass sound, this corps truly looked like it was having fun out there. If you ever get a chance to see this corps, you need to know two things - pay close attention to the cartwheeling cymbal players and know the words to Minnie the Moocher. They want the crowd to sing! Closed again with Auld Lang Syne, which was beautiful! Besides the Scouts, they were the audience favorites tonight.

4th Place - 51.4 - Minnesota Brass: They also have a teriffic hornline- plenty of screamers again this year. The highlight of their show this year is definitely Caravan. Jazz seems to be one of their fortes, and they bring the crowd to their feet near the end of Caravan with some wild brass sound and a great solo - Way to go Roger! They also have a very strong drum line and a good guard, and should repeat as this year's DCM Champions.

3rd Place - 70.9 - Blue Knights: They had the unfortunate luck of going on after the Scouts, and that may be why the first half of their show seemed flat to me. They were doing selections from Ben Hur, and during the first part of their program nothing really caught fire. They executed the drill well, but it was like something was missing from their show. They must have gotten energy from somewhere, though, because their closer was excellent. Father in Heaven was performed with great emotion, and the hornline achieved a deep and loud sound that they had yet to find. If they can perform their entire show with this much intensity I think they have a good shot at making the top 12 again this year.

2nd Place - 72.7 - The Laddermen....oops, meant the Glassmen: I've heard a lot about those ladders, but I never realized there were that many of them on the field. I'm surprised they weren't announced as the Menard's Glassmen or something! Anyways, beyond the ladders I really did enjoy this show - they have a fabulous horn line this year! The music from Biezt is a good choice from them! There were some really powerful points from them in both the opener and the closer... The only thing that really took away from the show was the ladders. I spent so much time trying to figure out why they were there that I missed the rest of the performance during the middle of the show. otherwise this corps is much improved, and should easily find itself back in the top 12.

1st Place - 77.7 - The Madison Scouts: WOW! Let me say that again...WOW! I wasn't sure how I felt about the Pirate theme this year, but I was still shaking 10 minutes after they were done. The show is much more complete than it was last year, you really can feel them tell a story. The Adventure Begins is a great piece of music for them, very loud and brassy, and they do it without getting too crass. I agree with other people on here who have said the Scouts have a more balanced horn line this year, and it showed during this piece. They also have a neat visual effect during moods of the sea where the corps makes a wave - watch for it! Also, the guard this year is great - they have a talented group of young men who know how to act and tell a story... There are so many different things going on that I know I missed a few of them tonight, and I can't wait to see them again in Hastings. Overall I think this show is put together much better than last years, and who knows what they may do with it. I loved this show, and I'm sure it will only grow on me more as the year goes on!

Overall a great night for drum corps, and we were treated to a full retreat, with lightning in the distance. America O'Canada was pretty bad tonight...not too many corps seemed to know the O'Canada part. Afterwards the Scouts performed a standstill including their 1997 show and You'll Never Walk Alone. About 75% of the people stayed for the standstill and gave repeated standing ovations. Never seen that many people stay before, it was quite impressive. Can't wait to go to the next show!
